Digicel Chat

digicel CHAT is a new and innovative text based service from Digicel that’s easy to use and great fun. digicel CHAT allows users ‘chat’ with up to 30 other users in chat rooms using their Digicel mobile phone.

It is based on a series of commands that are sent as an SMS message and sent to 2428 (CHAT)

Before choosing a chat room you can find out how many people are chatting

1 – Go to your text messages

2 – Go to write messages

3 – type list

4 – send to 2428

You will get a message back listing all the chatrooms and now many people are in each room.

For example to join the dating chat room

1 – go to your text messages

2 – go to write messages

3 – type join dating

4 – send to 2428

You will get a message back saying ‘welcome to dating chatroom, there are X chatters here’

Once you join a chatroom, any message that is sent is received by everyone in that chatroom.

1 – go to text messages

2 – Go to write messages

3 – Type your message – for example, ‘NE1 out there?’ (anyone out there?)

4 - send to 2428

Your message will be received by everyone in the dating chatroom and you only get charged the rate for one SMS message (CI 0.10).

There are a number of rooms set up as default chatrooms or you can create your own.

· Users can send JOIN only and get into a generic room where they will get a list of all chat rooms.

Some useful words for texting – when you text its best to keep it short and sweet. Here are some abbreviations to help you say more with less.

How do I send a keyword?

Go to menu, messages, write new message, type the keyword and send to 2428.

How much does it cost?

Users are charged CI 0.10 per message sent. If there are 30 people in the chat room they will all receive it but you will only get charged CI 0.10.

Do I pay for receiving messages?

No, you don’t pay for receiving messages, you only pay for sending messages.

Is it available for all Digicel customers?

Yes, it is available for both postpaid and prepaid customers.

What is my nickname when I first sign in?

Your nickname is the last four digits of your phone number. It will stay like that until the user changes it.

Do I have to change my nickname every time I join a chat room?

No, once you have changed your nickname the system will remember your nickname.

Do I need to set up my nickname every time I log in?

No your nickname will be retained until you change it.

Can I create my own private room?

Yes, you can create your own room and invite your friends to join you but it will still be open for other chatters to join.

How many days does the room I have created stay active?

It will stay created but will not appear in the “LIST” when it has been inactive for more than 24 hours.

Can chatters have the same nicknames?

Yes, you can have more than one (1) chatter with the same nickname.

If I send “EXIT” and later I want to join the last room I was in do I send “JOIN” again?

No, you can just send any word and you will enter in the last room you were in.

Do I have to type all the letters in capital letters?

No, it can be either capital letters or small letters.

Is the chat room censored?

No. It is very difficult to censor a chat room so what we have done is barred anyone sending their phone number in its entirety, but users are known by the last 4 digits of their phone number. However if a user is reported to be abusing the service we will bar them from future use of the service.

How long can I stay a chat room without sending a message?

Users can stay up to 24 hrs without sending any messages, after 24 hrs they will receive a message that they no longer are in the chat room. To rejoin the chat room just simply send anything and the user will be back in the last room they were in.
